The Vincentian public is being encouraged to form or join neighbourhood watch groups.

This encouragement came from corporal of police Edson Smith during an appearance on WE FM’s Cop Chat program.

Corporal Smith emphasized the importance of community policing, noting that the Royal St. Vincent and the Grenadines Police Force would provide the necessary resources to the groups.

“I understand the inclination to put a lot of the pressure on the police when there’s an upsurge in crime, so to speak. But it really starts at the community level. You know, we want to encourage people in the community, the Royal St. Vincent and the Grenadines Police Force, that is, to form neighborhood watch groups or join a neighborhood watch group, you know, close to you. And we definitely provide the resources needed in terms of the training. It’s a strategy to strengthen the relationship between the police and the public, and it’s also a way for the public to know the officers in their districts.” He said.

He noted that while these neighbourhood watch groups may focus on making communities safer, they are also responsible for the execution of productive community initiatives such as community clean ups and more.
