The St. Vincent and the Grenadines National Trust via an official release has advised the Vincentian public that effective August 15, 2022 the Ft. Duvernette Site also known as ‘Rock Fort’ would be conducting repairs to its’ site.

 As such the public is hereby asked to cease and desist from entering the Ft Duvernette Site.

The national trust, in their release, cautioned that persons entering the site will be doing so at their own risk. This is as a result of the existing conditions which are extremely dangerous.

According to the St. Vincent and the Grenadines National Trust website, Fort Duvernette, also known as Rock Fort, was built in the 1790s and towers over Calliaqua Bay and Indian Bay. Its guns sit on a 58 metre volcanic plug that sticks out of the sea on the windward side of St Vincent. The fort was built to protect the colonial hub of Calliaqua, where sugar was loaded onto ships bound for English ports.
