Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of St. Vincent Electricity Services (VINLEC) Mr. Thornley Myers, during a call on the WEFM’s Wake Up morning program refuted claims that customers have seen an increase in their bills because they were paying for customers in the red and orange zones.

“Persons saying, first and foremost that their electricity bills are high, and one of the reasons or suggestions that were made, I imagine by a very, very, very, very few minority is that the green zone is paying for the orange zone. How could one come to that kind of an analysis?” Mr. Myers said.

VINLEC’s CEO called the claims absurd and said that such claims would seem to suggest that VINLEC is robbing its customers.

He goes on to say that when VINLEC makes the decision to not charge the customers in the red zone due to the certain circumstances, that the company takes that loss, and does not pass it onto customers as some want to believe.

“We’re not going to charge you for it simply put, that’s on VINLEC. That can’t be on other customers; there’s no way, no mechanism, there’s nothing that we can for customers in the green zone to pay for the electricity used by customers in the red and orange zone” he said.

Mr. Myers pointed to increase of the fuel surcharge as the reason for the increase in customers’ bills.
