St. Lucia’s Prime Minister Dr. Kenny Anthony has described as “very unfortunate” the death of a 39-year-old man who tried to save a cow from drowning during last weekend’s heavy rains that caused widespread flooding across the island.

Cletus Estephan drowned in the Bexon River on Friday and Prime Minister Anthony said he was “very saddened” at the tragic loss of life that has now left four children without a father.

Meanwhile, the Prime Minister praised the heroic efforts of a man who “saved two persons” after they were swept into the city sewer system as a result of the heavy rains associated with a tropical wave that moved across the Lesser Antilles on Friday.

Two people, including a woman, survived the ordeal as the heavy rains forced the closure of several businesses and schools.
