The Ministry of Health and Wellness in Barbados is standing firm behind its new COVID-19 protocols.

In the face of criticism of the protocols, which took effect on Thursday, Government will stick to its guns and not alter the number of days visitors can be quarantined after a second negative result, which could lead to their being released.

On Tuesday, the Barbados Association of Medical Practitioners (BAMP) sent an urgent letter asking the ministry to re-think the decision to test visitors a second time only two to three days after arrival from high-risk countries.

BAMP argued that every visitor from high-risk countries such as the United States, United Kingdom and Jamaica should be quarantined for 14 days.

A statement late last night from the ministry said it recognized the concerns of BAMP, which is represented on the Emergency Operations Committee.
