Sixteen children have received vital orthopedic surgeries, compliments the World Pediatric Project (WPP).

On Sunday, an eight member General Orthopedic Mission from the WPP conducted evaluations on seventy-six children, of which 16 were selected for surgeries this week.

Executive Director of the World Paediatric Project for the Eastern Caribbean, Lauren McIntosh, told WEFM News that the operations were conducted from Monday at the Milton Cato Memorial Hospital.

Mrs. McIntosh said that nine of those children on whom surgeries were conducted are from Dominica, Grenada and St. Lucia.

She said all of the surgeries went well and the children will receive follow-up evaluations by WPP partner pediatricians and orthopedic surgeons in the respective countries.

Mrs. McIntosh said that although many children are seen during their various missions, it is the ones who require critical surgery that receive surgery during the week of the Mission’s visit.

The WPP Executive Director for the Eastern Caribbean said that a General Laparoscopic Mission from Richmond Virginia is scheduled to come to St. Vincent and the Grenadines next week.
