The Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry, Fisheries and Rural Development, in collaboration with the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), will be hosting several activities for World Food Day (WFD) 2017.

World Food Day is observed annually on October 16 and aims to raise global awareness about hunger challenges.

This year’s theme is “Change the Future of Migration; Invest in Food Security and Rural Development”.

Raymond Ryan, Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Agriculture, said the theme for this year’s event, is very important, as it focuses on the link between Migration, Food Security and Rural Development.

Meanwhile, Chairman of the World Food Day Committee, Cornelius Richards said among the major activities planned includes a national exhibition and cultural show at Heritage Square on October 16 and a national youth symposium.

Mr. Richards said they will also be having a school study tour, and will visit Bequia to meet with the fisher folk on that Grenadine Island.
