Construction work on the Georgetown Community Market is expected to begin before the end of 2022.

This is according to Prime Minister Dr. Ralph Gonsalves who was at the time speaking on NBC radio.

He said that the Government has already acquired the land necessary for going forward with the project.

“The Government has acquired the land. I understand that the owner of the land is challenging the price which the government valuers said should be paid,” Gonsalves said.

The Prime Minister noted that this challenge by the owner of the land is in no way holding up the process of construction. He expressed that he would like to see the work started before the end of this year.

“That is not holding up anything, it is the question of again, the administrative work being done, but I want to see some things commence before the end of the year,” he said.

Prime Minister Gonsalves noted that the money for the project has already been included within the estimates, and said progress on the project will be dependent on persons with the relevant responsibility within the state administration.

“ They money is inside of the estimates, you have the money available and it’s a question of  the persons who are responsible in the state administration for getting the project going, to move and have all the ducks lined up for us to proceed.”
