Over 50 thousand dollars in prize money was distributed on Saturday January 6, 2018 to the winners in the various competitions held for the 2017 Nine Mornings Festival.

Lennox Bowman, Deputy Chairman of the National Nine Mornings Committee speaking at the ceremony at the Peace Memorial Hall said that 2017 was a great year for the festival, adding that a number of communities and committees really upped their game during the 2017 Nine Mornings Festival.

Meanwhile, Minister of Tourism and Culture Cecil McKie expressed appreciation to the communities that continue to participate in the Nine Mornings Festival over the years.

He noted that with the opening of the Argyle International Airport in February 2017, the number of returning nationals and visitors arriving here to be a part of the 2017 Nine Mornings Festival improved significantly.

Minister McKie also hailed the staging of the first ever Sunday Nine Mornings on Christmas Eve December 24, 2017.

He said this was possible following discussions with the umbrella religious bodies here.

According to Minister McKie, discussions will now have to be held on whether to have a Sunday Nine Mornings going forward, or if the event in 2017, was a one-of activity.
