The Windward Islands Farmers’ Association (WINFA) in partnership with the Inter-American Institute for Cooperation on Agriculture (IICA) and the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry, Fisheries and Rural Transformation successfully hosted a National Women’s Seminar on Women and Development on March 8th, 2016.

The conference was held at the National Insurance Services conference room under the theme “Planet 50-50 by 2030: Step It Up for Gender Equality” and coincided with the International Women’s Day celebration.

The session was attended by over fifty women from a wide cross-section of women’s groups, cooperatives, associations and individuals in the agricultural and rural communities.

It featured the honouring of three outstanding female agriculturists for their contribution to the Agricultural Sector and the development of women here in St. Vincent and the Grenadines.

The feature address was delivered by WINFA’s Coordinator Mrs. Kozel Peters-Fraser, who stated that gender equality and women’s empowerment is the missing link for sustainable development and that women must fight to ensure that the next 15 years improve the lives of women everywhere.
