Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Central Water and Sewerage Authority (CWSA) Mr. Garth Saunders, while giving an update on the water situation in St. Vincent and the Grenadines amid the ongoing explosive eruption of the La Soufriere volcano said that water supply is ‘on a solid road to recovery’.

He said apart from the four systems that are located within the red zone, the water supply systems are back in use. This brings nationwide water capacity up to approximately 70 percent. This however, is not inclusive of the Jennings water system Saunders said.

Mr. Saunders said that the reason for the Jennings system, which services the areas from Byrea to Diamond, not being operational is due to the fact that it is one of three systems still currently being worked on, the other two being Perseverance which services Chester cottage to Overland and the Hermitage system which services Richmond to Mt. Wynne.

Saunders said that it possible to get these systems up and running again but the main issue preventing this from happening is the lack of proper access. He said that this lack of proper access has been caused by the damage done to trees that have fallen in the roads that provide access to these systems. The Perseverance system will be addressed last due to the fact that it is located in the volcanic red zone.
