Eight-time Olympic gold medallist Usain Bolt is one of two Jamaicans to receive the 2019 International Humanitarian Award this Friday, October 25 in New York City.

The other is Glenford Christian, founder and chairman of Cari-Med Group of Companies. Bolt and Christian will be presented with their awards at the 2019 Hummingbird Gala.

The board of directors of the American Friends of Jamaica (AFJ) nominated the Olympian and the businessman, in recognition of their philanthropy and contributions they have made to economic development in Jamaica. Bolt established the Usain Bolt Foundation in 2011.

The foundation has provided support to a number of entities including the Walkers Place of Safety that was destroyed by fire, as well as the Jamaica Special Olympics programme.

The foundation also hosts an annual Christmas treat in his home town of Sherwood Content in Trelawny.
