A code of conduct for the December 9th general elections was signed today by leaders of three political parties here.

Leader of the ruling Unity Labour Party (ULP), Prime Minister Dr. the Honourable Ralph Gonsalves; Democratic Republican Party (DRP) leader, Anesia Baptiste; and Chairman of the New Democratic Party (NDP), Dr. Linton Lewis, all signed the code at a ceremony held at the Methodist Church Hall in Kingstown.

The code is promoted by the National Monitoring and Consultative Mechanism (NMCM) and the St. Vincent and the Grenadines Christian Council.

According to Mike Stewart, a representative of the NMCM, the code seeks to cause political parties to pledge to, among other things, fostering democracy through peaceful, free and fair elections, promote human rights and promote violence free elections.

That was a representative of the National Monitoring and Consultative Mechanism (NMCM) – Mike Stewart.

The Code of Conduct is not a legal instrument, but publicly calls for political parties to bind themselves to it.
