The St. Vincent and the Grenadines Teachers’ Union is calling on the Government to favorably consider its demand for a one month salary in lieu of salary increase.

The appeal comes as part of a resolution which was unanimously agreed to at the Union’s 2015 edition of Branch Day which was held yesterday at the Thomas Saunders Secondary School.

The Teachers’ Union says it will also engage in all necessary action to bring national, regional, and international attention to the situation.

The proposal for a one-off payment as compensation to Public Officers and Teachers in the absence of salary increases for the years 2012 – 2014 was put forward at a meeting in December 2014 between Prime Minister Dr. Ralph Gonsalves and representatives of the Trade union Movement.

The Unions had said at the time that the proposal takes into consideration the increases in cost of living over the three years period.
