St. Vincent and the Grenadines Dengue Fever outbreak’s numbers have reached 374 and claimed the lives of two Vincentians so far.

This information comes via this country’s Chief Medical Officer (CMO) Dr. Simone Keizer Beache, during the Ministry of Health’s press conference held on Tuesday September 22nd 2020.

“We have 374 laboratory confirmed cases of Dengue Fever in St. Vincent and the Grenadines”

The CMO stressed the fact that these 374 cases were those who had been tested, and the possibility remained that there could more cases than just 374 laboratory cases in SVG.

“These are the persons that had laboratory tests. It does not take into account who may not have had a laboratory test, but rather, we know that there are other persons who would have dengue and not be tested.”

Dr. Keizer Beache went on to disclose that as of September 20th 167 persons had sought care in relation to dengue, 59 of these persons had to be admitted, 37 of which where children.

The CMO went on to discuss the two lives that were lost to the virus.

“We have reported two deaths and this report is based on laboratory findings. So we have one middle aged female and one nine year old male, both from the Calliaqua district.”

SVG’s last Dengue Fever outbreak was in 2014, with 240 cases being recorded then. This year’s recorded cases have surpassed that number 134, with this year’s number of cases recorded standing at 374.
