The St. Vincent and the Grenadines Teachers Union (SVGTU) is moving to establish a Medical Fund to assist teachers who are very critically ill and in need of seeking medical treatment either locally or outside of St. Vincent and the Grenadines.

This was announced today by First Vice President of the SVG Teachers Union, Mr. Vibert Lampkin speaking at a press conference at the Union’s Headquarters at McKies Hill.

Mr. Lampkin said that a resolution regarding the establishment of the proposed fund will be presented at the Union’s upcoming Annual General Meeting (AGM) to be held on Wednesday November 15, 2017 at the Thomas Saunders Secondary School starting at 4:00pm.

According to Mr. Lampkin, a proposal will be made for EC$5 to be deducted each month from members’ salary and go directly toward the Medical Fund.

Mr. Lampkin said a special body will be set up to manage the Medical Fund and money will be disbursed to very critically ill teachers based on their medical needs.
