The St. Vincent and the Grenadines Credit Union Movement has joined the many organizations and individuals here in St. Vincent and the Grenadines who have come forward to express solidarity and make a donation to the government and people in the aftermath of tropical storm Erika.

The SVG Cooperative League this morning donated 30,000 EC dollars to the Dominica Cooperative League to aid in the ongoing relief effort in that the island.

The donation consisted of funds contributed by the various Credit Unions and Cooperative Societies in this country.

A symbolic handing over of a cheque for $30,000 was done this morning at the launching ceremony for the 2015 Cooperative Month activities.

In his address at the ceremony, President of the SVG Cooperative League, Kelvin Pompey expressed support to the peoples of Dominica as they work to rebuild following the tragedy caused by the storm, and said the SVG Cooperative Movement will continue to provide support and practical assistance wherever possible.

Speaking via telephone this morning at the ceremony, President of the Dominica Cooperative League, Mr. Aaron Dalrymple expressed gratitude to the SVG Cooperative Movement for the generous donation.

Tropical Storm Erika devastated Dominica on August 27th, resulting in losses and damage estimated at 1.298 billion EC dollars, according to Dominica’s Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit.
