The St. Vincent and the Grenadines Community College (SVGCC) yesterday signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the Holland College located on Prince Edward Island in Canada.

Vice President, Mr. Mike O’Grady signed on behalf of Holland College while Mr. Nigel Scott signed on behalf of the Community College.

The visit by the foreign team led by Mr. O’Grady comes as a result of a visit to that island, late last year by an official delegation led by Minister of Agriculture, Saboto Caesar, which also included Her Excellency Lou-Anne Gilchrist, Ambassador to the United States and High Commissioner Designate to Canada and Counsel General to Canada Mr. Fitzgerald Huggins.

At the signing ceremony which took place at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Conference Room, Minister of Education, St. Clair Jimmy Prince, said the MOU will focus on Maritime development as St. Vincent and the Grenadines and Canada continues to work closer together on matters of mutual development.

Minister Prince said it is his hope that the diplomatic relations between both countries can continue to be strengthened as Canada has been very generous to this country over the years.

Meanwhile, Nigel Scott, Director of the St. Vincent and the Grenadines Community College, said collaboration is integral to the college as it recognizes that as a small institution in a small country, it can do very little without collaborations.

Mr. Scott said the under the MOU, both organizations are expected to collaborate in research, student and staff exchange programs and curriculum development.

He says that the MOU signing marks another opportunity for two commonwealth nations to forge this collaboration and strengthen the bond that existed between Canada and SVG.
