Joel Bascombe, a student of the St. Vincent and the Grenadines Community College, is the winner of the National South Coast Marine tertiary level debate.

The debate took place at the Community College Lecture Hall at Villa, yesterday evening.

Bascombe outdebated his competitor – Juanna Holder, of the SVG Coast Guard.

Both debaters presented on the main topic; “From the mountain to the sea: advancing a socio-economic and ecosystem-based approach is critical to the sustainability of the South Coast Marine Management area.

Bascombe, the winner, who hails from the Division of Arts, Sciences and General Studies, of the Community College, argued in favor of the topic.

He also favored public awareness over enforcement as an effective means of getting residents in the South Coast to act in ways that would ensure the protection of the area.
