The Royal Saint Lucia Police Force (RSLPF) has expressed concern over the number of reported cases of missing people on the island, most of which are young people.

Some have gone missing for just a few days, and there are high-profile cases like Omar Defreitas, a Carellie resident who has been missing since January 6.

Inspector of Police attached to the Criminal Investigations Department, Shervon Matthieu, says there is a need for parents and guardians to pay greater attention to their children.

“If you have a kid who is three years old, by the time you don’t hear him or her for one minute, you should be concerned about his or her whereabouts because a three-year-old could wander anywhere,” Inspector Matthieu said.

In addition, he says more emphasis should be placed on young girls.
