The government of St. Vincent and the Grenadines entered into a contract with local Joint Venture firm Franco Construction Limited and Williams Engineering Services on November 27th, for the construction of a satellite warehouse at Magum/Sandy Bay for the National Emergency Management Organisation (NEMO).

The contract, worth some nine hundred and ninety five thousand EC dollars, was the lowest bid of the two qualifying tenders received, and is funded by the World Bank under the Regional Disaster Vulnerability Reduction Project.

The works forms part of the government’s priority investments to reduce the country’s physical and economic vulnerability to adverse natural events through building resilience to current and future climatic changes.

The warehouse will afford NEMO the opportunity to assist communities to respond immediately to emergencies resulting from natural disasters, and will house various equipment and supplies to aid in this effort.

The works, which commenced with site acquisition and clearing on December 2nd, is scheduled to be completed by December 1st, 2016. The warehouse is one of six to be built throughout this country. Similar warehouses are planned for Georgetown, Marriaqua, Rose Hall, Bequia, and Union Island.
