Relatives and friends, government officials, principals, staff and students of several secondary schools and other well wishers yesterday converged at the Fancy Playing Field, for the Memorial Service in honor of the seven students who died in the Rock Gutter Tragedy on January 12th, 2015.
Simonique Ballantyne, Chanstacia Stay, Anique Alexander, Racquel Ashton, Jamal and Jamalie Edwards, and Glenroy Michael died in the accident which occurred when the passenger van in which they were travelling went over an embankment and into the sea at Rock Gutter, an uninhabited area between the communities of Fancy and Owia.
In his tribute at yesterday’s Memorial Service, Prime Minister Dr. the Hon. Ralph Gonsalves expressed sorrow that the seven children are no longer with us, and called on persons to always remember them.
Prime Minister Gonsalves also pledged his continued support for the families of the victims, as well as the survivors and their families.
