The Chief Engineer, Mr. Brent Bailey has recommended that the buildings which formerly housed several government buildings on Halifax and Egmont Streets in Kingstown be demolished, following the fire that occurred in that area on Sunday August 23rd, 2015.

This was disclosed by Prime Minister Dr. Ralph Gonsalves this morning in Parliament.

Prime Minister Gonsalves said the Ministry of Works is currently preparing conceptual architectural designs for the development of the block that includes the British American Insurance Company Limited (BAICO) construction site.

He said the budgeted costs of the demolition and other works is 1.2 million dollars and added that the redevelopment of the site will among other things result in a reduction in rental space for several government ministries.
