Prime Minister Dr. Ralph Gonsalves will this evening present the feature address at the 12th edition of the Dr. Alister Francis Memorial Lecture to be held in Antigua.

The lecture series is held annually, as a tribute to the first principal of the Antigua State College, who served the tertiary institution from 1977 until his death in 2000.

Prime Minister Gonsalves will speak on the topic, “Education and the Caribbean Civilization.”

“Education is the cornerstone of the Caribbean civilization, and I will explore the role it has played in the socio-economic development of our region. I enthusiastically look forward for the opportunity to elaborate on this and related issues with my brothers and sisters in Antigua,” Prime Minister Gonsalves is quoted as saying according to a report by the Antigua Chronicle newspaper.

Dr. Gonsalves joins a long list of prestigious regional officials who have delivered the memorial lecture, including University of the West Indies Vice Chancellor Sir Hillary Beckles; OECS Director General and former CXC Registrar, Dr. Didacus Jules and Governor General of St. Lucia Dame, Pearlette Louisy.

The lecture will take place at 7:30pm at the University of the West Indies Open Campus, in Antigua.
