With this 2018 Atlantic Hurricane Season predicted to be an active one, with some 16 named storms, five to nine of which are predicted to mature into hurricanes, with one to four of those becoming a major hurricane, the Vincentian Public is being reminded of the importance of being prepared.

Speaking on radio yesterday, Prime Minister Dr. Ralph Gonsalves said that valuable lessons must be learnt from last year’s hurricane season, which saw several Caribbean Countries suffering widespread devastation, particularly as a result of the two major hurricanes in September.

Prime Minister said that a significant amount of money has been spent here over the years in addressing issues resulting from climate change.

Meanwhile, Michelle Forbes, Director of the National Emergency Management Organization (NEMO) is appealing to persons to take all storm alerts seriously and to pay attention to weather bulletins issued by the local Meteorological Services.
