Dr. Ralph Gonsalves

Prime Minister Dr. Ralph Gonsalves says the overwhelming majority of Vincentians, teachers and public servants do not support the one-day strike called for today by the St. Vincent and the Grenadines Teachers’ Union and the Public Service Unions (PSU).

In a radio broadcast yesterday, the Prime Minister said many of the teachers and public servants consider as unreasonable, the demand by some sections of the leadership of their Unions to press the government for a one month tax free salary in lieu of no salary increases for the past four years, which is estimated to cost the government $25 million.

Prime Minister Gonsalves also dismissed as ‘untrue’, remarks made by president of the PSU Mr. Elroy Boucher, during an interview with a local journalist, that the government gave salary increases to Ministers between 2012 and 2014.
