Dr. Ralph Gonsalves

Prime Minister Dr. Ralph Gonsalves says repair works are ongoing on several roads, amid a proposed withdrawal of services by members of the National Omni Bus Association (NOBA).

President of NOBA, Mr. Anthony Bacchus announced last week, that the proposed withdrawal of services on October 12th, is being taken due to the failure of the government to fix certain roads  throughout the country.

Speaking at a News Conference yesterday, Prime Minister Gonsalves said a lot of roads in St. Vincent and the Grenadines have been badly built, and these have been made worse due to what he described as “atrocious weather” in recent times.

He also noted that funds had to be diverted to address the damage caused by storms in recent years.

But he pointed out that the present government has spent more money on roads than any administration.

Dr. Gonsalves also expressed dismay at the suggestion made by the president of NOBA that the government should have utilized some of the money used recently to acquire building materials from Tank-Weld group in Jamaica, to fix the roads.
