Prime Minister Dr. Ralph Gonsalves has reiterated that the government is unable to pay at this present time the one month tax free salary which is being demanded by the St. Vincent and the Grenadines Teachers Union (SVGTU) and the Public Service Union (PSU).

Speaking on Monday at a Press Conference, Prime Minister Gonsalves said the proposal is estimated to cost the government $25 million, and it just cannot afford that or even half of it given other current expenses.

The Prime Minister said that during a discussion with both unions he told them he is committed to giving them an increase in 2016, given the prediction by officials of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) for moderate economic growth here in 2016.
