Prime Minister Dr. Ralph Gonsalves has denied claims that he holds a multi-million US-dollar account in a Swiss Bank, after a document began circulating on social media at the weekend, alleging that he has 19 million US dollars in an HSBC Bank account in Switzerland.
Addressing thousands of supporters at a political rally at Argyle last night, Dr. Gonsalves said an investigation has been launched into what he called a “criminal conspiracy” against him.
The Prime Minister said he has spoken to the Chargé d’affaires at the US Embassy in Barbados, and has he also instructed the Commissioner of Police to open a criminal investigation into the fraudulent document locally, as well as to immediately contact INTERPOL, the Regional Security System (RSS) and the Joint Regional Intelligence Fusion Centre of IMPACS to assist in the investigation.
The Prime Minister said he responded swiftly to this allegation since it touches on the issue of good governance.
