Prime Minister Dr. Ralph Gonsalves has dismissed as ‘false’ a comment made recently by former opposition leader Mr. Arnhim Eustace, who allegedly stated that the government owes some 23 million dollars in contribution payments to the National Insurance Services (NIS).

Speaking on Star Radio this morning, the Prime Minister noted that while he personally did not hear Mr. Eustace’s statement which was reportedly made on radio, the director of the NIS saw the report and drew it to his attention.

According to Dr. Gonsalves, a memo prepared by the Director of the NIS pertaining to the government’s NIS contributions has since been sent to the former opposition leader.

The Prime Minister made it clear that his government does not play petty politics with the National Insurance Services.

He explained that between 2001 and 2018 the government has paid over to the NIS contributions amounting to over 255 million dollars, and added that the government is up to date and in good standing with the NIS.

The Prime Minister disclosed that thus far for 2018, the government has paid some 12.97 million dollars in contributions to the NIS.
