The Royal St. Vincent and the Grenadines Police Force (RSVGPF) has refuted a news article published by The News Newspaper on Friday December 11th, 2020 under the headline “GANG RAPE! Four Police Officers under investigation for Raping Girl at Station”. It was later republished by ANN.
The article alleged that four police officers raped an under- aged female multiple times at a police station in a rural district and that the matter is currently under investigations.
“The RSVGPF wishes to inform the general public that the article in question is erroneous, incorrect and frankly irresponsible journalism.” An official release from the RSVGPF stated.
The RSVGPF, in the release went on to ask the media houses to apologize and to, in the future, seek out factual information from official sources before publishing, in order to avoid the tarnishing of the organization as well as protect their own credibility.
