Prime Minister Hon. Dr. Ralph Gonsalves while speaking on radio discussed the difficulties being face by sailors who have been out of work due to the COVID-19 pandemic. He also talked about the possibility of providing support in some form.
“I know several persons in homes with sailors that are struggling to pay utilities. There are people who work on the cruise ship, who are coming and telling you well they don’t know when they are going back and they’re looking for this and that job.”
Prime Minister Gonsalves said that even if the sailors had not been paying to the NIS that they are a significant group of people who have made their contribution and that he feels compelled to assist them in some way.
