Dr. Ralph Gonsalves

During a call to the Issues at Hand program aired on WeFM, Prime Minister Dr. Hon. Ralph Gonsalves discussed the ticketing system that has been place to fine those who breach the country’s COVID-19 protocols. Breaches include dining in at restaurants, failing to wear a mask in a public space and more.

“If you dine indoor at the restaurant, that’s $100. If you’re at a public space and the public place is indoor place which is publicly owned and the public has access and you don’t wear a mask, that’s $100.”

The Prime Minister then went on to address public transport fines.

“Driving or riding in a public service vehicle also carried a fine of $100. If you drive a public vehicle with more than %50 for which it licensed, you’ll pay a fixed penalty of $100.”

He then discussed the penalties pertaining to bars and restaurant breaches.

“If you permit more than 10 persons in a bar, a nightclub or any place of entertainment, or you yourself are the person in charge of the restaurant and you breach the rules, those are $500 fines.”

Dr. Gonsalves said that those who receive tickets and decide to take their matter to court can find themselves paying more than $100 or $500 fines, stating that they can reach as high as $1000.
