Plans are in place for the hosting of the National Schools Band Showcase tomorrow March 24, 2018.

Eleven school bands and one community band will participate in the event which takes place from 6:00pm tomorrow at the tarmac of the decommissioned E.T Joshua Airport.

The Secondary School Bands Showcase, a collaboration between the Ministry of Tourism, Sports and Culture and the St. Vincent and the Grenadines Teachers Credit Union, will be held under the theme “Bringing a Modern Approach to Music Education.”

Rodney Small, Co-ordinator of the showcase told WEFM News that the Showcase aims to provide an opportunity for secondary students to participate in the live music art form, and to pave the way forward for future bands and musicians.

Mr. Small said the response from the principals, teachers and students to the hosting of this event has been overwhelming.

Rodney Small said there is a Memorandum of Understanding whereby the SVG Teachers Credit Union has committed to sponsor the school bands showcase for a four year period.

Mr. Small is encouraging members of the public to support the youths by attending the showcase. He said admission is free, however persons will have an opportunity to make donations, in boxes that will be available at the venue.
