Over 1,000 thermometers have been secured for the reopening of schools on the 31st of this month. This is according to the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Education Mr. Myccle Burke.

“One of the main things that needs to be done is the temperature checks. When this was communicated, we put it out there, and we were able to receive funding from different sources, we saw the generosity of our people as well.

Organisations and entities reached out to the Ministry of Education and communicated a desire to assist.

So an organization such as VincyCares reached out almost immediately and made a commitment to provide in excess of 100 thermometers.”

St. Vincent and the Grenadines has a total of about 68 primary schools and 27 secondary schools, Mr. Burke said that 100 thermometers would be sufficient for providing thermometers for the schools, but went on to mention that the ministry had been a recipient of even more assistance, this time coming from none other UNICEF.

“So 100 thermometers would be adequate to start, but we have gone beyond that as well, we have engaged UNICEF, we have engaged PAHO as well and they will be providing a quantity of about 1,000 thermometers.”

He said that the ministry is working to ensure that the thermometers are procured expeditiously.
