Although there have been no confirmed cases of Zika virus in any member states of the Organisation of Eastern Caribbean States (OECS), the organization has declared February as the month of concerted action against the virus by all stakeholders.

Chairman of the OECS and Prime Minister of Grenada, Dr. Keith Mitchell said proactive measures are currently being implemented and stronger coordination of effort will be seen in the coming weeks.

During an address to the six member states, Dr. Mitchell pointed out that the OECS wide campaign will have four main elements; monitoring and surveillance, eradication and protection actions, care and case management and a widespread public education campaign.

He said there would be partnerships with stakeholders, including the tourism industry, to promote measures to prevent all mosquito borne illnesses among residents and visitors.
