A special mission of the Organization of American States (OAS) that is seeking to find a solution to the political and constitutional crisis facing Haiti has described talks with stakeholders so far as “very constructive”.

The mission is being led by Antigua and Barbuda’s Ambassador to the hemispheric body, Sir Ronald Sanders, who is also Chair of the OAS Permanent Council.

The mission arrived in Haiti on Sunday and has so far held talks with President Michel Martelly, who is due to leave office on February 7th, as well as senior members of the government, the Senate President, and members of the various political parties in the Senate, as well as Lower Chamber President Cholzer Chancy.

Sir Ronald said he regards the discussions held so far “as very constructive, particularly because they are pointing towards a solution to the present difficulty being reached by national stakeholders”.

The mission will present its findings to the Permanent Council of the Organization of American States upon its return to Washington.
