President of the Barbados Nurses Association (BNA) Joannah Waterman is appealing to nurses to take the Oxford-AstraZeneca vaccine.

She said that following the roll-out of the vaccine last week, which saw front-line workers taking it, data showed that the uptake for some nurses at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital and Psychiatric Hospital was the lowest.

“While nurses in specified departments such as Accident & Emergency, Intensive Care Units and the isolation and quarantine centres have taken up the vaccine in high numbers, nurses on the general wards of the Queen Elizabeth Hospital and of course those in psychiatry are low,” Waterman said.

She noted the data showed doctors, engineers and those in housekeeping had high numbers.
