The Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation (GPHC) in Guyana says a total of 657 babies were born to teenage mothers during the period January 1st – July 31st, this year.

According to the statistics provided by the GPHC, the teenage mothers range from under 14 to 19 years old. In 2014, for the same period 673 babies were born to teenage mothers.

The hospital noted that for this year thus far, 3,125 babies were delivered and of that number only 3, 075 were successful, while 50 of those babies were still births.

The GPHC said “These figures illustrate that the hospital has recorded a decrease in deliveries during this period compared to last year as well as a decrease in babies being born to teenage mothers.”
