The Miss SVG pageant, which had been moved from its usual May-June period and instead slated to take place in October has been officially cancelled.

Chief Executive Officer of the Carnival Development Corporation (CDC), Ashford Wood, said that the decision was a result of the far reaching negative impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic on the citizens and business community of SVG over the last four months.

An official release from the CDC states:

“While the original date set for the pageant, October 31st, seems to be in the distance, necessary preparations had been put on hold out of an abundance of caution, adherence to the guidelines put forward by the authorities and being sensitive to the financial and psychological challenges stemming from the many uncertainties surrounding the pandemic.”
