The Ministry of Health, Wellness and the Environment’s Dental Services Department will be celebrating a week of Dental Education and Awareness which begins today September 21st and ends on Friday 25th September.

This year however, Dental Week will be different due to measures put in place to curb the spread of COVID-19. Dr. Brendon Richards, Senior Dental Surgeon in the Public Dental Services had this to say regarding the changes:

“We will, because of COVID-19, have to retract that face to face interaction, but it will nonetheless be educational and interactive. Interactive in the sense that the format of our outreach would change from being those face to face clinics, schools and community interactions to a more educational media outreach. That has its advantages as well in broadening the scope of our reach” he said.

Dr. Richards said that contextualizing the pandemic at the moment allows the dental department to focus not just on providing healthy smiles but also providing healthy smiles in a safer environment.

All of the Media out-reach activities of Dental Week will focus around encouraging Regular Dental Visits, adherence to New Visiting Protocols; as well as; Healthy tips for Personal Dental Care even during a pandemic.
