Twenty persons are receiving training this week in different self management tools and techniques in a bid to aid persons who are living with chronic diseases to live healthier lives.

The four day workshop titled ‘Chronic Disease Self- Management’ commenced this morning at Frenches House, and is being hosted by the Ministry of Health, Wellness and the Environment, in collaboration with the Pan American Health Organisation (PAHO).

The participants will also learn how their role and that of the providers differ when dealing with chronic illness versus acute illness.

Participants are drawn from the Ministry of National Mobilization Caregivers programme, the Mental Health Centre, the Lewis Punnette Home, the Lions Club Kingstown, the Diabetic and Hypertensive Association, CCA Limited of Canouan and the Nutrition and Health Promotions Units in the Ministry of Health.

The Facilitators are Ms. Rosemary Mockette, Community Nutritionist in the Ministry of Health, and Dr. Tomo Kanda – PAHO Advisor on Chronic Diseases and Mental Health.

Upon completion of the training, participants will each receive a certificate.
