The Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Trade and Commerce says it has noted a recent media release published on a media website dated July 27, 2018 entitled “CCJ cocktail party shows SVG gov’t hypocrisy on court-Kay.”

The Ministry said in a statement that the Caribbean Court of Justice (CCJ) held a recent special sitting in St. Vincent and the Grenadines in honour of Hon. Mr. Justice Adrian Saunders’ elevation to the Office of the President of the CCJ.

The Hon. Attorney General, in recognition of Justice Saunders’ achievement, hosted a cocktail reception to which the Head of State, Parliamentarians, Heads of Ministries and Departments, Diplomats, Judges and Magistrates and other members of the legal fraternity were duly invited through hand-delivered printed invitations.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs advises that the information published on the aforementioned media website of July 27, 2018 is erroneous and irresponsible.
According to the statement from the Ministry, the invitations issued for the said reception were indeed hand-delivered to Democrat House, Headquarters of the New Democratic Party (NDP), on Wednesday July 18, 2018 for the attention of all Honourable members of the parliamentary opposition.

It is noted that one of the Ministry’s Office Attendants upon arrival around noon at Democrat House on the said date, hand delivered the invitations to a gentleman, later identified as Mr. Tyrone James.

In light of the information that is in circulation, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Trade and Commerce categorically denounces any attempt by persons to inject partisan politics into this national event and would like to reiterate that it takes its mandate seriously to discharge the administrative functions with which it is tasked.
