The Ministry of Education is reporting an increase pass rate in the number of students who sat the 2017 Caribbean Primary Exit Assessment (CPEA).

According to the Education Ministry, of the 1638 students who wrote the final examination of the CPEA on Friday May 19, 2017, the number of students who met the prescribed standard was 1,398 or 85.35%.

Of the 797 females sitting, 737or 92.47% met the required standard, while of the 841 males sitting, 661 or 78.60% met the required standard.

These results represent an increase over the previous year’s results.

Last year of the 1786 students who wrote the exam, 1498 or 83.87% of the students met the required standard.

Of the 877 females sitting, 788 or 89.85% met the required standard, while of the 909 males sitting, 710 or 78.11% met the required standard.

There are 47 schools that recorded a pass rate in excess of 80%, and according to the Ministry of Education, this represents the same figure as last year’s number of schools.

The CPEA have two components: the School-Based Assessment which comprised 200 marks or 40% of the total score and the External Assessment which comprised 300 marks or 60 %of the total score.
