The Ministry of Agriculture is collaborating with the Food and Agriculture Organisation of the United Nations (FAO) to develop a virtual agro-food marketplace. This comes from the Minister of Agriculture Hon. Saboto Caesar during PRYME press conference on Tuesday.

Minister Caesar said that this virtual agro-food marketplace will not just be limited to the local market of St.Vincent and the Grenadines but will also include the OECS and CARICOM.

He went on to explain how the marketplace would function when operational.

‘On a virtual platform, you can stay at your computer in your office in Kingstown and you can see what is being sold at all of the four agricultural depots, and just like how you do it on Amazon, you can fill your box and have it delivered to you.’

Minister Caesar further explained the implementation of the virtual marketplace on a regional level.

‘You can stay in Barbados and order your food from the depot in St.Vincent and the Grenadines and an entrepreneur can go and collect it  and put it on the Admiral Bay that will take it to Barbados and have it delivered to the housewife in Bridgetown.’

The virtual marketplace has not yet been given a definitive launch date by the Ministry.
