With the absence of foreigners travelling to St.Vincent and the Grenadines, Minister of Tourism, Sports and Culture Hon. Cecil Mckie has made a case for local tourism and staycations, outlining several factors that would make a difference in making them viable to the average Vincentian. We hear more from the Tourism Minister:

“It’s an opportune time for us to implement what we have been discussing for years and I take note that some of our Caribbean islands have already rolled out their staycation programs.

Now this requires the hotel and tourism association, hopefully, to offer attractive rates.”

The Minister made mention of the fact that some local hotels had already begun rolling out staycation programs. Mr.Mckie also said that tour operators and taxi operators would also have to offer attractive rates to order to promote local tourism.

“It requires the tour operators, the taxi operators to also offer attractive rates”

The tourism sector has been hit particularly hard by the COVID-19 pandemic due to the lack of incoming flights bringing tourists to SVG.
