This country’s Minister of National Mobilization, Social Development, Family, Gender Affairs, Youth, Housing and Informal Settlement Hon. Dr. Orando Brewster, in recognition of International Men’s Day released a statement in honour of the day.

“Today’s celebration of men and boys, hopes to create an atmosphere that embraces every man, inclusive of his vulnerabilities and to generate a sense of awareness about the rights and responsibilities of men.

Today I encourage each and every one to break the silence about men and boys, because around the world, three of four suicides are men, nine of ten prisoners are men, and two in three murders are men.

The year 2020 has seen the COVID-19 pandemic sinking its teeth into our Vincentian society, wreaking havoc on our livelihoods with specific and often invisible effect on men and boys, therefore, it is important to understand the risk of men and boys in this pandemic.”

International Men’s Day is celebrated annually on the November 19th and was started in 1999 by Dr. Jerome Teelucksingh a history lecturer at University of the West Indies in Trinidad and Tobago.
