Alpha Interferons which was given to this country by Cuba, to help in the fight against COVID-19 is now being endorsed in the fight against Dengue fever in SVG. First by this country’s leading infectious disease specialist Dr. Jerrol Thompson and now by the Minister of Health Hon. Luke Browne during last week’s sitting of Parliament.
“Something which we brought into the country with the idea or intention of using it as required for treatment of COVID-19 patients is potent against Dengue. And this is Alpha Interferon, which we got from the Government and people of the republic of Cuba. This again, is something in our arsenal and something which we could deploy if it is necessary, to treat Dengue cases.” He said.
St. Vincent and the Grenadines is currently in the midst of a Dengue outbreak which as seen a total of 655 laboratory confirmed cases of the virus and 6 Vincentian lives lost.
