Teachers in St. Vincent and the Grenadines have been commended for playing critical roles in the development of the society by shaping students educational and social understanding of the world around them.

This commendation comes from Minister of Education, National Reconciliation and Ecclesiastical Affairs, St. Clair Prince in his address to mark World Teachers Day which is being observed today October 5.

According to Minister Prince the theme of World Teachers Day ‘Teaching in Freedom, Empowering Teachers’, is apt as it supports the Ministry’s agenda for this academic year which includes a series of continuing professional development training sessions for teachers at all levels to empower them to become better teachers.

The Education Minister commended those teachers who remain dedicated to the task of teaching despite the various challenges that confront them in the classroom each day.

He also salutes all of the outstanding retired educators who have made and continue to make contributions to the development of the education sector in St. Vincent and the Grenadines.

Minister Prince is calling on teachers to remain focused on the task at hand by adding value to the lives of the students placed in their care.

He noted that what teachers do in the classroom can either help or hinder the progress of students in the class.

The Education Minister pledged the commitment of his Ministry to working with the SVG Teachers Union to ensure that a climate is created whereby teachers can perform their tasks in freedom, and with the necessary conditions and resources to be true professionals.
