With improved connectivity in the construction and operation of the Argyle International Airport and the increase in demand for our agricultural commodities there is a corresponding increase in the demand for arable lands for agricultural production here in St. Vincent and the Grenadines.

As a possible solution, Minister of Agriculture Saboto Caesar addressed the issue of the establishment of a land bank. He said the establishment of this institution has been a central pillar of the government of St. Vincent and the Grenadines.

The land bank is expected to operate as a registry to provide a facility for persons who are interested in agriculture to access information about the possibility of purchasing or leasing land so that they can increase their production and productivity.

Minister Caesar foresees the positive impact of the land bank extending to other Windward Islands.

FAO Representative Aure’lie Bres in addressing the issue of the land bank said that the FAO supports the initiative. She said that the aim was to ease the effort of finding lands to lease and to diminish the volume of abandoned lands in St. Vincent and the Grenadines.
